How Do We Talk About Race and Current Events?

Decisions are often made, laws are often passed, and potential outcomes for our relationships are being set whether or not we are talking about our racial relationships in Oak Ridge. For example, just this month (July), a Tennessee company, Tractor Supply Inc., reversed its goals and objectives away from diversity and inclusion after getting push back from conservative talk-radio. After being labeled as “woke” from social media, their stock prices dropped, and it took very little time for the company to adjust its principles and goals.

With a Tractor Supply store right here in our city, what does that mean for their employees and hiring practices? What does that decision mean for our community?

What might we be able to learn about how to better talk across differences to understand each other? As Walt Whitman once wrote, “Be Curious, Not Judgmental.”

How can we be curious and learn more? What questions would we want to ask Tractor Supply if given the chance? Is there a way practice community in this situation?

Join us August 4th as we break bread together and talk about how to engage in current issues! RSVP Below:
